*Defined: The stealing or obtaining a person's personal and/or financial
information, such as credit card or Social Security numbers, with the
intention of using that data to commit fraud and create a phony persona.
Identity theft is a method of acquiring financial or monetary gain while
avoiding the responsibility of the debt incurred.
Identity theft is an activity where the violator may conduct criminal activities
so that such activities are redirected to the victim helping the violator to
avoid prosecution.
